Gold Traders, based in Wiltshire, has people “queuing out the door” to get cash for their gold as they struggle to make ends meet – and receives around TWELVE bags of GOLD TEETH a WEEK. Jon White, director of Gold Traders, said the company is buying £100,00 worth of gold a day, with a “record high” number of customers currently coming to his shop in Royal Wootton Bassett.
“The amount of gold we are buying at the moment is unprecedented and we have customers queuing up to sell,” he said. “We are usually busy, but since the US presidential elections the price of gold has gone up and we’re busier than I can ever remember. We are about to hit April when people’s council tax, water bills and electricity bills will be going up, so they are having to find more money and trading in their gold is a good option.”
Jon said customers are coming into the shop with jewellery, coins and even bags of old gold teeth. “We have people bringing jewellery they no longer wear, such as charm bracelets and wedding rings, as well as coins and gold sovereigns. We have also seen a steady increase in gold teeth,” he said.
“We know from speaking to our customers that some have resorted to removing gold crowns to raise much-needed cash to pay bills, which is distressing to hear. Our team primarily handles jewellery and gold coins that members of the public have stashed away for a rainy day, but we do buy gold teeth and other medical scrap metal from dentists. If you are having a gold tooth removed or replaced at the dentist, you can ask for the tooth back, but we definitely would not recommend removing dental metal yourself.”
