A section of fencing at RAF Marham in Norfolk at the end of the runway allows extremely easy access to the UK’s multi-million pound defence force, which will soon include the F-35 planes.
Most of RAF Marham is surrounded by six-metre high barbed wire fence, but a section at the end of the runway is only guarded by a low wooden fence, which could easily be jumped over.
Planespotters first pointed out the security risk seven years ago and new photos show the perimeter fencing has still not been changed.
It means the RAF base is vulnerable to attacks from activists and foreign agents. A local said: “It’s a security nightmare, the airbase is not secure and anyone could jump onto the runway if they wanted.”
The UK is set to buy at least 12 F-35 stealth jets that can carry nuclear warheads.
