Dresses and outfits worn by stars including Claire Foy, Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and Colin Firth will be on show in the Crowns and Gowns exhibition.
Jewellery, props and memorabilia from the films, which include The Other Boleyn Girl, The King’s speech, Macbeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, as well as Netflix’s The Crown, are also on show.
“This is something we have been considering doing for some years and it has been an exciting journey to bring it to fruition,” said Joss Palmer, events manager at Ely Cathedral. “It has been a real privilege to have the Cathedral used as a location for such prestigious movies and television shows and we are grateful to the film industry for their continued support. If the event proves popular, we hope to follow Crowns and Gowns with a larger scale exhibition in the summer of 2021”.
Costumes on show include the magnificent uniform with medals worn by Colin Firth in The King’s Speech and the ornate white bejewelled dress worn by Cate Blanchett in the dance scene in Elizabeth.
Ely Cathedral, which is often referred to as The Ship of the Fens is highly regarded by historians and architects from all over the globe for its beauty and size.
