Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, who are all in their 50s, have got the lyrics to some of their tracks on prompter screens for their new This Life tour. Eagle-eyed fans spotted the screens with the song words on stage at the opening night of their 41-date UK tour at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield at the weekend, where they played to a crowd of 12,000.
The iconic boy band trio, who have a total age of 160, have been at the top of the charts for the last 30 years and have a huge catalogue of hits to remember. They are not the only stars who are getting a bit forgetful – former Take That member Robbie Williams needed a teleprompter for his performance at the Brit Awards seven years ago.
Whilst Beyonce, who is just 41, used an autocue during her Renaissance Tour last year. The singer had a huge screen facing the stage with the lyrics to her 40 songs written in a large font. In 2020 rock icon Paul McCartney revealed that he uses a teleprompter during his live gigs in case he forgets the lyrics to The Beatles’ songs.
Elton John also admitted he needed a teleprompter when he played Candle in the Wind at Princess Diana’s funeral because he was so nervous about performing the adaptation which had new lyrics.
