The royal had to down a drink of sparkling water as she drove her carriage, then put the glass down at the next stop, but she missed – leaving husband Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and daughter Lady Louise laughing.
Sophie, who was dressed smartly in a navy velvet jacket, navy hat, long skirt and brown boots, skilfully guided her horse and carriage up to a glass perched on a post, then drank the sparkling water as she drove along. But she didn’t down the drink in time and missed the second post where she was supposed to put the glass down. Instead she tried to reverse back, but when she couldn’t make it she put the glass between her teeth and carried on.
Edward, who was wearing a straw hat, captured the whole event on his camera phone and looked on laughing with daughter Lady Louise, 20, as Sophie completed the course.
