Mary Jacobs is so POTTY about bedpans she has amassed an incredible 163 over the last 40 YEARS – but has now run out of room. The 77-year-old pensioner, from Newmarket in Suffolk, started her hobby when she spotted a bedpan at a Salvation Army jumble sale in 1984.
Since then she has added to her commode collection every year, visiting antique shops, auctions, charity shops and jumble sales to seek out new items - with prices ranging from 50p to £18.
“I just wanted to collect something different. I always catalogue and label each bedpan so I know where I bought it from and how much it cost,” said Mary. “Most people think that all bedpans look the same, but in fact they are all different, sizes and colours and shapes, they really do vary a lot.”
Mary’s favourite bedpan is decorated with a blue and white pattern and she is also fond of one which has small side handles.
“They are all clean and washed and in fantastic condition. I had a cupboard specially built to store them in my front bedroom but I’m getting older and need to clear some space so I’ve now decided to sell them,” she added. “I really hope they go to a good home, but I don’t think anyone is as a mad as me.”
