The 33-year-old former Hollyoaks star, who plays parish priest Alphy Kotteram, turned up the heat as he kissed co-star Christie Russell-Brown in his red vintage Triumph Herald. Rishi took over from actor Tom Brittney as the new village vicar in series nine, which premiered in the US earlier this summer and is still to air in the UK. He appears to have wasted no time making an impression on the women in his new village parish as he leaned in for several passionate snogs with Christie, who plays Meg Gray.
Rishi, who looked suave in a brown suede jacket and navy blue jeans, with slicked back hair, was seen making the actress giggle as they filmed their intimate scene in the pretty village of Grantchester in Cambridgeshire. He was later seen dressed in his vicar’s attire and spotted having his make-up touched up in between scenes.
The series is adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie and was developed for television by Daisy Coulam. Returning cast members this season are expected to include Robson Green as DI Geordie Keating, as well as Al Weaver, Tessa Peake-Jones, Kacey Ainsworth, Oliver Dimsdale, Nick Brimble, Bradley Hall and Melissa Johns.
Rishi, who recently got engaged to his long-term girlfriend Natali, previously said of his leading role: “I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Grantchester. The welcome and support I've received from everyone has been overwhelming. The success of the show and the reason we are here for a ninth season is a testament to all the people that have previously worked on it. I'm really excited to get started and cannot wait for the Grantchester fans to meet Alphy and to see all that's in store for him.”
Writer and executive producer Daisy Coulam said: “This show is a testament to our lovely team - the cast and crew. I'm so grateful and proud that we get to come back together for our 10th season and another glorious summer in Grantchester.”
