Sophie, 60, had to down a drink as she drove her carriage, then put the glass down at the next stop, but it FELL OFF and her groom tried to catch it – leaving them both in HYSTERICS. The royal, who was dressed all in red, with a straw boater hat and black gloves, took part in the fun test as part of the CIAT event (Concours Internationale d’Attelage de Tradition) at the annual Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, of which she is president.
She skilfully guided her horse and carriage up to a wine glass perched on a post, then drank the sparkling water as she drove along. But she didn’t down the drink in time and had to throw some of the water away, then when she tried to put the glass down at the second post, 15 metres away, it fell off.
Her loyal groom, riding on the back of the carriage, tried to catch the glass – but failed. “That was pure humiliation,” she said as she continued the challenge.
