Dishy Grantchester vicar Rishi Nair appeared as an EXTRA in the very FIRST episode of ITV crime drama Grantchester – without even realising.

The 34-year-old former Hollyoaks star, who plays parish priest Alphy Kotteram, appeared in the background of a scene in Cambridge with James Norton, who played the original Grantchester vicar in series one. He is seen smartly dressed in a pale grey suit, tie and black shiny shoes, as he acted with other extras in the city scene 12 years ago in 2014.

But the actor, who has gone on to star in the show, which has just filmed its final scenes after 11 series, says he had no idea what programme he was shooting when he appeared as an extra – and was stunned to learn it was Grantchester.

He said recently: “I was given the extra role but we didn’t know what we were filming. I had no idea I had been in Grantchester before!”

The long-running show has been adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie and developed for television by Daisy Coulam.
