The Monarch is selling the 90s Britpop hats, made famous by the Oasis frontman, for £12 as part of a range of merchandise produced for the Sandringham Festival of Carriage Driving. The floppy hats, which can be bought in navy, cream or grey, come with an “S” for Sandringham emblem on the front, which has been made to look like a horse with a crown.
They were produced for the three-day carriage driving event at the King’s estate and are now available to buy online.
Liam Gallagher adopted the bucket hat during the 90s Britpop era and cemented it as a piece of working-class indie culture. When Oasis reformed last year, the bucket hat became the uniform for the millions of fans who attended their reunion tour and thousands were sold on the merchandise stands.
The annual Sandringham carriage driving trials were started in 1982 by Prince Philip, who wanted to bring one of his favourite sports to one of his favourite places and it always takes place over the weekend after Royal Ascot. Other merchandise for this year’s event includes Sandringham Gilets, brollies and polo shirts.
