The 76-year-old, who once admitted to talking to his trees and is known for love of holistic therapies, has made the sanctuary at his Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The design of the new Sundial Garden is based on the Rose of Venus, which has become a symbol of sacred geometry, cosmic harmony, and the interconnectedness of all things. It also represents the love, beauty, and compassion of the universe and serves as a reminder to be gentle with your mind and body, and to nourish your soul. The garden has been being built alongside The Topiary Garden and The Lower Maze on the West Lawn and features a sundial at its centre, surrounded by staged planting “with complimenting perennials in tonal colours.”
The Sandringham estate said: “Supporting the same principles as The Topiary Garden and The Lower Maze – The Sundial Garden also takes inspiration from symbolism in the cosmos. Observing geometric harmonies and balance The Sundial Garden design structure represents The Orbit of Venus – known as the pentagram or petals of Venus due to its elliptic orbit pattern. Staged planting will flow across sections with complimenting perennials in tonal colours highlighting both the shape and space of the Garden Design.”
