A Cambridge University college is using LASERS to fend off a growing population of Canada GEESE which are proving a health hazard and scaring away tourists.

Porters at King’s College are using handheld bird scaring laser torches at dawn and dusk to drive away the gaggle of geese which are fouling on the college lawns and dive-bombing punters on the river. The college also plans to oil the goose eggs in the spring to reduce the number of geese, which have frightened away indigenous birds and visitors to the historic college.

A man is in custody after allegedly attempting to break into an RAF base used by the US military.

Police were seen outside RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk, following a “security incident” and the base is now in lockdown, according to the Ministry of Defence.

If he is selected for Light Blue Boat team in April he will become the oldest man ever to compete in the famous race, beating Andy Probert, who was 38 when he coxed Cambridge in 1992 and Mike Wherley who rowed for Oxford at 36 in 2008.

Wheelie bins could soon be a thing of the past after a new district installed UNDERGROUND bins for residents.

Council workers have now begun collecting rubbish from the new system, which is the BIGGEST of its kind in the UK, which features steel bin chutes set into the pavement, feeding into large underground chambers.

A sensor notifies the council when it is full and a specialist lorry hoists the container out of the ground with a crane and empties the waste into the vehicle. The underground bin system has been introduced at Cambridge University’s new district, Eddington, in north west Cambridge and eliminating the need for 9,000 wheelie bins.

THE DAD of missing airman Corrie McKeague blockaded the entrance to a rubbish tip where his son is believed to be buried after police ended their investigation at the site.

Martin McKeague used his camper van to block the entrance to the landfill site at Milton, Cambs, in a desperate effort to get police to change their mind over stopping the search.

Officers from Suffolk and Norfolk police have spent 20 weeks sifting through 6,500 tonnes of waste at the tip but they said they have now completed the search of the area where they know waste was deposited in that period.

Internet inventor Colin Furze has made a bicycle which can fire an incredible 1,000 ROCKETS – all at the same time.

The 37-year-old former plumber spent two days building the bike, which allows him to launch the rocket fireworks by pushing a button on the handle bars.

Colin came up with the idea to celebrate getting five million followers on his YouTube site and tested it out on private land near his home in Lincolnshire.

A re-creation of the world’s FIRST playground slide – built 96 YEARS ago from a plank of wood with NO sides – has been unveiled.

The primitive piece of play equipment was originally constructed in 1921 in Wicksteed Park in Kettering, Northamptonshire – the first public park in the UK.

It was designed by owner Charles Wicksteed, who initially made slides for his park as part of his vision to inspire and encourage play, then went on to manufacture and sell them around the world.

Now the iconic slide with wooden steps and 30ft long timber planks, has been re-created as part of the park’s project to bring the history of children’s play to life.
