Ely Cathedral’s girl choristers sang on the roof of magnificent Ely Cathedral as they prepare for a busy Christmas despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The girls, aged 10 to 16, climbed to the top of the Norman cathedral to rehearse for the festive season. Stunning aerial photos show them performing high up on the roof of the Gothic cathedral in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Fens. Ely’s girl choristers were founded in September 2006 – more than 1000 YEARS after the boy choristers.

A paramedic has spent more than 40 YEARS photographing the changing face of the NHS - and published his pictures in a new book.

Amateur photographer Chris Porsz, 67, spent many of his day’s off over the last four decades accompanying colleagues to capture the patient’s journey from the 999 call to the hospital. He has taken hundreds of pictures of doctors, nurses, patients and wards at three hospitals in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and now produced a book, Just Be Kind, with part proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research.

Furious residents claim their Christmas decorations have been BALLSED UP after a neighbouring council gifted them a shocking second-hand £40,000 silver spruce – which no one else wants.

Furious villagers on the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk border have been told they must pay at least £780 a year to continue using an historic iron bridge – or face a 10 MILE detour.

Residents in the small community of Brandon Bank and Little Ouse were stunned to receive a letter telling them they must now pay a significant toll to cross the bridge – which has been free to use for more than 70 YEARS. The charges have been imposed by the South Yorkshire Pensions Authority, which owns the bridge - which was built in the 1950s - as part of the 13,000-acre Waldersey estate.

The feathered fiend, who is now a fully-fledged swan, was nicknamed Asbaby as a youngster when he pecked petrified punters on the famous Backs. But during lockdown punts and boats have been stored away and there is no one on the river, so now the savage swan has taken to chasing people on the towpath instead.

UK new car registrations rose for the first time this year, by 11.3 per cent in July, according to figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Some 174,887 cars were registered in July 2020 as dealerships across the UK opened for their first full month of trading since February. This represents a significant improvement on the same month last year, when declining business and consumer confidence undermined the market.

The companies have fixed Perspex screens to their boats to ensure there is a protective barrier between different groups of people when the current two metre minimum distance is not met.
